Dental Implants

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are titanium cylinders, (screws) that are surgically placed into the jawbone under local anaesthesia, where there are missing teeth below the gums replacing your missing tooth root. After it’s fitted, the bone surrounding your implant will gradually fuse to it, holding the implant firmly in place, the implant can support crowns or dentures, in a similar way that roots support natural teeth. Having missing teeth can really knock your confidence, as well as affect the way you eat and speak.

Dental implants have improved the quality of life for many of our patients. They provide a modern, long-lasting solution to the loss or damage of teeth.

What are dental implants success rate?

Success rates of dental implants vary, depending on where in the jaw the implants are placed but, in general, dental implants have a success rate of up to 98%. With proper care, implants can last a lifetime.

Before treatment, an initial consultation, diagnosis and a tailored treatment plan will be done, the costs depend on how many implants are needed and whether sufficient bone is available. Other factors may include special surgical procedures such a sinus lift. An implant isn’t the right option for everybody. It can depend on many things, including which teeth are missing, and the condition of your remaining teeth and gums.

An implant isn’t the only way to replace missing teeth – there are other solutions, such as full or partial dentures, bridges.

Before you decide to go ahead with dental implants, try to find out as much as possible about them. Don’t rush into a decision. We can also talk about other alternatives and what might be best in your particular circumstance.

It’s important to discuss all of your tooth replacement options with your dentist so that you can decide the best choice for you.

Please book a consultation and let us know what are concerns without any pressure to go ahead with treatment.

What are the benefits of dental implants?

Once you have your dental implant restored with a crown it will feel and look just like a normal tooth attached to your mouth.  This will improve your bite making it easy to eat, improve your speech, and confidence without the worry that the teeth might slip and cause you to mumble and slur your words. Dental implants will make you feel less self-conscious about having missing teeth and also it will improve your appearance.

When you lose teeth, you also tend to lose bone in your jaw, which means your facial tissues loose support this causing sinking of your face.  Implants prevent that bone loss and preserve the support of your facial structure. When you lose teeth, you lose that support, which eventually causes your face to change shape, making you appear older.

Implants are a long-term solution, so although they tend to cost more than other options for replacing teeth, the benefits are likely to last a lot longer.
